About my work
I use art to add depth and meaning in my life. I take art seriously because I think it’s important and must be treated with respect and reverence. The only way I can create art with true artistic value is by making it deeply personal. The two main themes I explore in my work our consciousness and evil, however, portraiture is something I care deeply about.
All of my current work is relief printing using Silk Cut Lino. Although relief printing is centuries old in many cultures around the world, it still has so much to offer creative expression today. When cutting lino, I’m not fixed on controlling every detail, instead, I focus my attention on the feeling of how my body moves when working the material. This means that I am less certain of the outcome. It's a process of relinquishing control and co-creating with chance.
As the ever expanding technosphere of our Brave New World encroaches on our personal lives, I believe the slow art of printing, created by human hands, has increasing value. It’s clear to me that art is more important than ever as we search for meaning in a time where meaning is increasingly drowned out in the noise.
Thank you for looking at my work.
