About my work
I use art to process thought, reconcile internal conflict, to create identity and meaning in my life. In my work I contemplate dark themes like the dehumanising belief in evil. Exploring what evil looks like, where it comes from and what it means to us personally. Other themes I explore include the abyss, nothingness, emptiness and eternity.
I love reading about philosophical thought with a particular interest in consciousness and especially love portraiture.
All of my work at the moment is relief printing. I have always had an affinity with line work and the reduced palette of black and white. Mono printing seems to have a reductionist effect on content also. Black and white is honest, stark and unflinching but conversely nuanced and evasive.
There is a gap in certainty with relief printing as you can never be sure of the final outcome. It's exhilarating to relinquish control and co create with chance. When cutting lino, my attention is focused on body movement, emotion, thought and how that culminates to say something essential, hopefully, of the sitter or idea.
Thank you for looking at my work.
